Gethsemane(This poem is dedicated to Jesus Christ's greatest suffering.) |
As an artist, one of my hardest challenges was in trying to capture the depth of sorrow Jesus Christ felt while in the Garden of Gethsemane. This took place the night prior to his crucifixion. Many Bible scholars believe his greatest suffering took place during this night, and not on the cross. It was at this time in Gethsemane when Christ told Peter, James and John to watch with him for his sorrow was great. He walked a distance from them and began what I believe to be the greatest suffering ever experienced by any person upon this earth. It was at this time that Jesus Christ said in prayer to the Father, "Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless, not my will but Thy will be done."
At this time Jesus Christ took the entire sins of every person that had or will live upon the world, upon his own soul. Such great pressure was upon our Lord and Savior that He bled from every pore.
I painted the face of Christ so many times that I wore out the board. I put another piece of material down over where the face was, and kept trying. I never did capture the depth of Christ's suffering. Then it came to me. How could I, a mere person, possibly capture in paint this tremendous act of love--the greatest gift ever given to mortal persons? I believe I captured Christ after his suffering as he came upon his sleeping apostles and said, "The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak."
There are 13 leaves on Christ's right, for the 12 original apostles and our Lord. There are 12 on Christ's left, for the 12 apostles today found in his true church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
The rainbow colored white star centered directly over christ's head represents our Father's pure love for all His creations.
This sculpting has two sides. The second side is a person who represents the builders of good things upon our world. The words on this side explain the qualities humakind should aspire to. The plans represnt the importance of each of us to properly plan our lives.
The round and square represent man and our Father in Heaven working together for the betterment of all life.
